Een dame die wel eens snel zou kunnen doorbreken in Americana-land is Gina Villalobos. Deze zangeres uit Los Angeles maakte onlangs haar tweede album getiteld “Rock ‘N’ Roll Pony. Haar muziek en zang doet mij een beetje denken aan de beginperiode van de Austinse zangeres Trish Murphy. De songs zijn rijk geïnstrumenteerd met pittig gitaarwerk van Kevin Haaland en stemmig pedal steelwerk van Sean Caffey. Lucinda Williams-freaks moeten zeker eens naar dit album van Gina Villabobos gaan luisteren.
